Dominican Baseball team Leones del Escogido managed to win the championship trophy after 17 years of drought for a title in the Dominican winter baseball.
Francisco Liriano threw first five scoreless innings and with just one hit and outfielder Wadime Balentien hit a solo homer in the second inning to cap a three-run rally and defeated over a 5-2 for the Gigantes del Cibao thirteenth win the crown in their history in the Dominican baseball.
With this title achieved at the Julian Javier Stadium, the reds obtained the right to represent the country in the Caribbean Series to be staged next week in Isla Margarita, Venezuela.
The Escogido could not win a title since 1992. Last night they stopped 17 years without reaching the championship trophy, but this time the team entered a restructuring process at all levels, led to the Bonetti family offices as well as work performed by General Managers and Junior Noboa and Moisés Alou, son of the legendary Escogidos´player Felipe Alou.
