The long-term involvement of the right-hander Joba Chamberlain for the Yankees in New York could not be determined when the remaining one week to the start of the regular season.
The general manager Brian Cashman would not specify anything with regard to include Chamberlain in the rotation for the season.
Chamberlain, who was initially described by Cashman as a starter in the bullpen, was sent to the list of relievers on Thursday, after he was overcome by the pitcher Phil Hughes in the competition to be the fifth starter.
Cashman said his goal now is to start next season, and there have been no meetings to discuss the status of Chamberlain for the 2011 campaign.
Chamberlain, who pitched an episode without taking race on Friday, said he is taking things day by day and it would be unfair to his teammates try to see beyond this temporada.
