Victor Cayó and Joan Guzman could not give another world title to the Dominican Republic, although the Saturday night at the Hard Rock hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, was presented as a golden opportunity for boxing Dominican professional.
Cayó who was principal costar fight of the night, was thwarted its aspirations to achieve super lightweight title the World Boxing Association (WBA), falling by knockout in the sixth before the hard-hitting assault argentinean Marcos Maidana.
With the loss, Cayó left behind his career undefeated, having proved himself in 24 bouts. Maidana, however, has now scored 28 wins, 27 of which were by knockout, with only one loss.
Joan, a former world champion junior bantamweight, lightweight, also failed to give the country another world crown, although he defeated his rival, South African Paulus Moses.
Joan's problem was he could not make weight regulation, so it could not opt for the vacant lightweight crown of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
It was the first time the two boxers climb into the ring Dominicans in the same night and the same stage in search of world crowns. The country stands with only one world champion, Elio Rojas.
