Dallas Braden threw the first perfect game Sunday in Oakland in 42 years and the 19th in major league history, beating the Rays 4-0 to Tampa Bay.
Braden began celebrating after Gabe Kapler stick a grounder to shortstop for Oakland to achieve the final out.
The only time the Rays were close to a hit was when Jason Bartlett sent the ball down the third-base line to start the game. Evan Longoria also tried to give a touch to Braden at the beginning of the fifth, but this only led to the fans booed.
"It's definitely a team effort," said Braden. "There are eight types chasing the ball and catching it for me. So is ours, not only mine, is ours. "
It was the first perfect game in Major League since Mark Buehrle achieved for the White Sox a curiously well against the Rays, on 23 July.
