"Ra-ooooo-oool .... Mondesi! ", Many will remember the echo by transmissions from the Dodger Stadium, where the talented young Dominican Raúl Mondesí walked home to the play to exhaust one shift, but the time will erase this presentation.

Now his fans in Dominican politics say they have a Trustee of Major League Baseball, who will leave his seat in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress, to sit in the chair of the chapter house of the important mayor of the city of San Cristóbal from next August 16.

Former major league baseball player, who was elected Rookie of the Year in the National League in 1994, was elected mayor of his province during the congressional and municipal elections held this Sunday.

With this choice Avelino Raul Ramon Mondesi became the most successful athlete in Dominican politics elections, winning two elected positions, a Congress and a municipal level.

As in the majors, Mondesi began his career with the Dodgers, but then he played with several bands, left the ranks of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) to close his candidacy with the opposition Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD ) with which he reached a vote on 54% of the votes of that demarcation.

San Cristobal, which until 1961 was called Trujillo Province in honor of the tyrant Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, has been one of the great surprises in these elections, in which Mondesi ran over the reelection of the current mayor, Jose Montas, and also former player Jose Rijo, who aspired to the position representing a minority institution.

During 12 years in the majors was one of the first Dominican players to achieve a 30-30 and finished his career at the wrong time with 271 homers, 860 RBIs and .273 average, wearing the uniforms of the Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Pirates, Arizona, Toronto, among others.

Mondesi's victory, 39 years, has been one of the big surprises of the election, especially when the ruling party swept the seats in the Senate with 31 seats to Congress of a possible 32 total. (Listin Diario)
