Federer Lost Estoril Open

Roger Federer was eliminated in the semifinals of the Estoril Open on Saturday falling 6-2, 7-6 (5) to the Spanish champion Albert Montanes. The Swiss world number one, committed 19 unforced errors in the first set, mostly in their backhands. Was more consistent in the second round.

A Federer missing six weeks to break Pete Sampras's record of 286 weeks as first ranking. Recently lost to Ernests Gulbis, 40th on the ladder, in the Rome Masters, and is preparing to defend his title at the French Open later this month.

Federer, eliminated last week in sixteenths of the Rome Masters 1000 Latvian Ernests Gulbis is thus unable to repeat his success of 2008 in the Portuguese court and continues to raise doubts on its way to the great event of the season on clay, Paris' Roland Garros tournament.

The Swiss will concentrate from now on in the 1000 Madrid Masters, where he is the defending champion.

In the women's final, Sevastova gave no option to the Spanish Arantxa Parra, who won the 6-2 and 7-5.
