David Ortiz steals Jay-Z's 40/40 Club

A new lawsuit claims Red Sox star David Ortiz liked Jay Z's 40/40 Club so much that he stole the name for his own hotspot.

Red Sox star David Ortiz liked partying at Jay Z's 40/40 Club so much he stole the name and opened his own joint in the Dominican Republic, a new lawsuit claims.

Big Papi shamelessly called his Santo Domingo hotspot Forty-Forty, hoping patrons would think his club was part of the rap star's empire, the suit filed Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court claims.

Jay Z's sports lounges in Manhattan, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City routinely draw stars like Mariah Carey, Naomi Campbell and Alex Rodriguez.

"David Ortiz was at the club at least twice, and certainly knew of it," said lawyer Peter Raymond of the firm Reed Smith.

The 40/40 club is named after a baseball feat: stealing 40 bases and hitting 40 homeruns in one season. Ortiz is not a member of that club.
