President Barack Obama yesterday congratulated the winners of the 2009 World Series, the Yankees of New York, for his exploits and his personality, when received at the White House and complained that his Chicago White Sox can not be equated with the successful team of the
Bronx.

The Yankees, winners of 27 titles, had not gone to the presidential residence since 2001, said Obama.

"Nine years ago his last title, which must have seemed an eternity to fans of the Yankees. I think other teams would have no problem with having a run like that. The Cubs, for example," Obama said to laughter from players, coaches, officials and legislators.

The Yankees, Joe Girardi, gave the president a No. 27 jersey and team autographs.

This was the fourth visit to the White House for four of the players, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada, who have met three presidents: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and now Obama. Before the ceremony, the Yankees visited wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army hospital.
