Pedro is Back to Boston

Pedro Martinez threw the first pitch Sunday's game Boston Red Sox against the Yankees in Boston, which opened the regular season Major League Baseball.

Former Red Sox ace left behind a U.S. flag that covered the entire left field wall and as he walked slowly toward the mound, smiled and waved to cheering fans. Martinez ran for release catcher Boston, Jason Varitek.

The 2010 season did not start the same way 2009 ended for the Yankees in New York.

After winning his first title in a decade, the Yankees opened their season with a tie against the eternal rival Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The results were not very encouraging for the Bronx Bombers.

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia homered and drove in three runs for the Red Sox beat the Yankees 9-7.

Things went just as the Red Sox could have hoped for in terms of final outcome.

The Yankees attacked early in the second inning when Jorge Posada and Curtis Granderson connected the first two homers of the season against right-hander Josh Beckett, who did not look their best form in the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Adrian Beltre hit a sacrifice fly to left-hander CC Sabathia to close a little marker.

However, bats attack Beckett became New Yorkers, making three turns with RBI singles from Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter. The young outfielder stole home in a careless Victor Martinez receiver to take control of the match 5-1.

Beckett left the game before completing five innings, but thereafter, Boston's bats were provided to give a little back to their best pitcher.

In the fifth, Marco Scutaro drove in a run and singled in the sixth, Kevin Youkilis tied a triple.

Beltre added a single that led to Youkilis at the plate to put the game 5-5 and out of Sabathia had already occurred.

Although the Yankees scored twice in the seventh with a grounder to Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada hit, nothing could stop the Red Sox.

In the seventh, Pedroia and Youkilis hit a home run scored on a passed ball by Jorge Posada.

Pedroia again be crucial in the eighth to tow the ninth race of the game.

The victory went to Hideki Okajima (1-0) working a blank inning, while Jonathan Papelbon rescued his first game of the season.

For the Yankees, Alex Rodriguez went 5-1, with runs and Cano, 5-2, with runs and an RBI.

Both doubled.

For the Red Sox, Adrian Beltre, 3-1, with a pair of RBIs. David Ortiz, 3-0.
