Leonel FernándezDominican Presidente Leonel Fernández received yesterday the championship trophy won by the Leones del Escogido in the Caribbean Series, held on Isla Margarita.
A delegation of the national champions and the Caribbean Series, led the team president Luis Manuel Bonetti and Sports Minister Felipe-Jay-Payano, at a ceremony held at the National Palace.
President Fernandez stressed the work done by the Leones in the traditional Caribbean classic is held in February each year. "This victory for the Leones is all the Dominican people, as represented with dignity in the international event held in Isla Margarita, Venezuela," said the president.
President Fernandez said the players met, for when he dismissed him with the delivery of the National Flag.
The Lions won their third crown in the Caribbean Series, plus the crown 13 in the Dominican winter baseball after 18 years without winning the crown trophy that he loved the fans.
Besides Bonetti and Payano, general manager were present Moisés Alou, Jose Miguel Bonetti son, Luis Manuel Bonetti son, Jose Veras, among others.
The Lions won the crown in the Caribbean Series, beating the Leones del Caracas, in the final game of the competition.
