Spain #1 FIFA Ranking

Spain continued to lead the FIFA world rankings while Egypt rose to tenth place after winning the weekend by third straight Cup title Africa.

The rankings, released Wednesday, was unchanged between the first nine. Spain, European champion, leads over Brazil and the Netherlands.

World champions Italy appears in fourth place, ahead of Portugal, Germany, France, Argentina and England.

Except Argentina, which beat Costa Rica 3-2 in a friendly game, none of the first nine teams played during January.

United States remained unchanged at site 14 and is the highest ranked country in CONCACAF.

Mexico was followed in the seat 17. Chile and Uruguay, which will vie for the 2010 World Cup, fell one post each to include 16 and 21 respectively.

Egypt won its third consecutive continental title on Sunday, which lifted him 14 places and traveled to Croatia to seat 11.
A year ago, Egypt was in 15th place.

Nigeria won the highest position for an African nation when he placed fifth in April 1994.

Also just made it into the top 10 in 2006.
