McGwire Sad About Brother's Book

Mark McGwire

Mark McGwire said he was saddened by the book his brother in which he states that both used performance-enhancing drugs, and reiterated that took just to recover from injuries.

McGwire said Thursday he is so angry with his brother Jay who does not believe that reconciliation is possible.

"I will not ever see him again," said McGwire, the new hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jay, the youngest of five brothers McGwire and six years younger than Mark, lived with him and frequently visited the team in Oakland when his brother was a ballplayer.

Both have been estranged for eight years a family quarrel, but Jay has decided to bring to light some aspects of their relationship in the book "Mark and Me: Mark McGwire and the Truth Behind Baseball's Worst-Kept Secret" which will release on Monday TriumphBooks editorial.

Mark McGwire used seven times the word "sad" to describe the book during his question and answer session with reporters on Thursday, which lasted eight minutes.

"You try to be a good person, caring about someone, being a good brother," said McGwire, while decreasing the tone of his voice. "It's sad. It is a sad day for my family. I do not understand how someone in the family could do something. "

Last month, McGwire admitted he used steroids and human growth hormone during the 1990s, but said he only did it to recover from injuries and not to improve their performance.
