Famous Spanish Golfer Visit Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo .- This Sunday at the country's famous Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez, who hold friendly exchanges with personalities.

Jimenez will be in Dominican Republic at the invitation of Jose Ovalles and will stay in his villa, Casa de Campo, La Romana.

The next weekend will be playing with Ovalles and other guests at the golf course, Diente de Perro at Casa de Campo.

Jimenez, born in Churriana, Malaga, is one of the leading golfers of the nineties and early twenty-first century.

It is popularly known as "The Pisha" and the WTA Tour as "The Mechanic", given his fondness for cars.

His first exposure to golf was at age 15, when he leaves his studies to work on the golf course of Torrequebrada. under the guidance of his older brother, John, first as a caddy and then on the practice field.

Three years later, 1982, enters the professional world, but it was in 1985 when he decided to dedicate his career to compete.

He has been awarded numerous distinctions including highlighting Andalusia Medal for Sporting Merit, in 2001, and the Medal of Merit Golf of the Royal Spanish Federation in 1999.

He also holds the record of the Parador de Malaga Golf in 63 strokes, made during the Turespaña PGA Golf Masters 1999 (who won) and the Oliva Nova, with the same number of strokes, playing the National Championship Peugeot OKI, where also took the victory. He has designed and advisor golf course renovations.

Spanish is currently ranked first in the European order of merit, ranking sixth. Only the Spanish Sergio García, Tsemo Olazabal and Jimenez keep the cards of the two circuits in the world in golf: the American and European. He is currently the chief representative of the Andalusian golf around the world.

The guest started to play European Tour in 1988, winning his first title in 1992 at the Belgian Open. His best years in golf have been 1996, when he finished fifth in the order of merit, as well as 1998 and 1999.

In 1999 he was runner up in the WGC-American Express tournament, which is one of the golf world championships involving elite players. Moreover, in this same year he debuted with the European team for the Ryder Cup
