
Taking the post as the new boss of cycling, declared yesterday Alberto Contador Tour de France for the third time.
At just 27 years, Spanish Contador completed processing the last stage, a journey between Longjumeau to the Champs Elysees in the French capital, to capture his third title in four editions.
Contador hugs distributed among his teammates, who chanted "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole" in the famous French track, where thousands of fans came to cheer the riders.
"I am very happy after having achieved the goal," said Contador. "I trained in an incredible way and is a huge release after the pressure and tension that I had."
The victory of Contador, who did not win any of the 20 stages, had been sealed on the eve when he managed to fend off his main rival, Andy Schleck of Luxembourg, in the time trial on Saturday.
Schleck finished second in the standings, 39 seconds of Contador, leader of the day. The podium was completed by Russian Denis Menchov.
