A large proportion of athletes who will compete in the different modes at Mayaguez Games are already in Puerto Rico in the final phase of their training, said yesterday Jose Rubio. He said the Olympic champion, Felix Sanchez, will be arriving at Mayaguez on the 23rd of this month to join the group.
"We are very happy because the athletes are focused on their training and hope to win between six and eight medals," he predicted.
Rubio said the delegation will be composed of about 35 athletes, seven officers.
He exclaimed that the main rivals are the athletes of Jamaica, Trinidad, Tobago and Puerto Rico and Mexico.
The Dominican Federation of Associations of Athletics (FDAAA), had been sending abroad to seven athletes for the national team members in order to speed up your workouts.
The national champion of 5000 and 10.000 meters Andreína de la Rosa, went to Medellin, Colombia at the beginning of the year like other athletes who have gone on to other training bases.
